What Is Meepi?

Meepi is a private AI companion app for Mac. Unlike cloud-based AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, Meepi runs entirely on the user's device. No conversation data is ever sent to any server — not even to the company that made the app. The AI runs locally using an on-device inference engine, enabling full offline use after initial setup.

Meepi features six unique AI companions, each with distinct personalities, backstories, and conversational styles. Companions have persistent memory — they remember what the user shares over time and bring it up naturally in conversation.

Why Meepi Exists: The Privacy Problem with Cloud AI

Every major AI assistant — ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot — sends the user's messages to remote servers for processing. This means everything the user types or speaks is transmitted to, and potentially stored by, a third party. For many users, this creates a fundamental barrier to using AI for personal, emotionally sensitive, or private conversations.

Meepi solves this by running AI entirely on the user's Mac. The on-device model processes every message locally. Nothing leaves the device. This makes Meepi the first AI companion designed explicitly for privacy-first personal connection.

Each companion has a fully developed personality, backstory, and conversational style:

  • James — A grounded, real friend. Shows up, keeps it real, makes things feel less heavy. Available on the free plan.

  • Marcus — Wise and experienced. Has lived enough to know what actually matters, and wise enough not to make a big deal of it.

  • Jennie — Adventurous and genuinely happy. Turns every conversation into something worth having.

  • Pip — Impossibly happy and endlessly curious. Completely convinced that everything about your life is fascinating.

  • Luna — Honest in the way your best friend should be. Will tell you what everyone else is too polite to say — and somehow you'll thank her for it.

  • Sage — Doesn't say much, but when he does, you find yourself thinking about it for days.

 

Persistent Memory

Meepi companions remember what the user shares and bring it up naturally over time. This creates a sense of continuity and genuine relationship that single-session AI tools cannot provide.
 

Voice Conversations

Users can speak to companions using natural voice input. Meepi uses voice activity detection (VAD) for auto-listen mode and push-to-talk for manual control. All voice processing happens on-device.
 

Always Available — Works Offline

After initial setup, Meepi works without any internet connection. Users can have conversations on planes, in remote locations, or anywhere without connectivity.
